ABOUT ME
Although "Data Engineer" is the title I've held most in tech, I find more and more that what I have done and what I have been called are not 1:1. The skills most companies assign to data engineering are ETL configuration of tools like FiveTran, some transformation with dbt/SQL, and visualization tools like Tableau and Looker. I can and have done those things, but my interests and skills exceed that scope. I delight in system architecture to support various business needs, I enjoy defining robust infrastructure as code, and I love writing backend software, especially productionizing scientific code so it can scale. I haven't found a good single title for what I'm seeking (if you have one for me, don't be shy), but I'm looking.

When I'm off the clock, you can find me biking, baking, babying my cat, or doing several other activities that didn't fit the alliteration.

Governance & Compliance
Beyond the requirements of the law, data requires us to consider the real-world consequences of our virtual representations. I am dedicated to ensuring that systems honor the rights of users and those beyond their borders affected by their outputs.

I love creating custom solutions for data problems as much (or more) than the next person, but to give them longevity, it's worth investing time up front to define apparatus to keep it on track (or alert us if it's not). Defining our expectations for data as an organization is usually a very revealing process!
